2. Define the term tragic hero as Warshow uses it in his title

Warshow defines tragic hero when he says "he is what we want to be and what we are afraid we may become". He is a hero  because he represents the repressed desires that americans must abstain from expressing aince they would go against society's principles. However, even though the Gangster is not afraid of living according to his own laws, he will always face a tragic end.
