Anyone in the world

Hi everybody,

here attached the REPASO for tomorrow.

Please try to solve it for tomorrow so during the repaso every doubt can be clarify.

ALSO, these are the rules for the exam and Dr. Papa told you in the class but I want to remind here clearly because I really want to avoid any misunderstanding the day of the exam.

1) the student can have the exam if and only if has got the university ID with name and student number

2) the bags and the books will be putted near the wall far away from the seat, at the entrance

3) the calculator can be scientific but not graphic

4) the calculator CAN NOT have the cover

5) no computer/smart clock nor phone

6) let know in advance the professor if you need accomodo.. if you forgot to send the paper to justify the accomodo, please do it immediatly.

Also.. We talked about an error in the book. The correct pedigree of the royal family England and Spain about hemophilia (chapter 3 fig.3.24) has to be: Victoria is a carrier.

check the error in the book about VICTORIA on the side of SPANISH royal family. She was daughter of Beatrice and wife of Alfonso XIII of spain... she has to be a carrier, so it is a circle with a black spot inside!! This why some male sons are affected.

THANKS

Barbara

Paulo Freire reflects on his life

Paulo Freire was interviewed by the International Literacy Institute in Philadelphia. This interview was done in 1996 by the World Conference Literacy. In this conversation he sates his opinion and way of thinking of a lot of things. He starts by saying that what calls the attention to him of being in the world, is that he is a curious being. He also states that in order to understand the others he must create in himself the virtue of tolerance, with this he can learn different things with different people, understand their point of views and more. Also he states that this virtue is a duty, by this he means we must all develop it to get through life. Another point he mentions was the critical understanding of education, how literacy is so important and how he has had a strong experience with the adult literacy. By literacy Paulo means analyzing, critical thinking, the ability to read and write and much more.  A way to solve this is to propose a different way of teaching and thinking to the teachers, so they can work differently with the students. On the topic of language and power he says that it is impossible to think of language without thinking of ideology and power. He thinks it’s necessary for the teacher to be democratic and tolerant, to explain the students that their way of speaking is as beautiful as the others and that they have the right to speak like this. But he also states that for the students to have a voice in today’s world, they need to know the dominant syntax. Otherwise they would become the oppressed, the poor; the lacking of knowledge. In other words, the more you know the better. He concludes his interview by saying that he always changes; that in fact he changes every day, but one thing he never changed was the central nucleus of his thoughts.

What are universities for? from The School of life

The video that School of Life present and wee will talk about is "What are universities for?". The questions: "The universities teach us how to live?, Who we are?, Where our society should be headed?, and more are some of the concerns of the youth today. It have being establish some priorities for students to learn philosophy, history, sciences and other courses. Those are important, but what about life?We also should be studying what we like,  what is the meaning of life, and how to live well, how to live happy. The School of life present the "Universities of the future"that consist in this kind of replacement. How should we be dealing with our problems, or how to reduce the anxiety, or how to be more compassionate are themes and areas that (maybe in a future) universities could fantasizes. Therefore as School of Life present the traditional way of teaching in the Universities since 19th century and their idea of what universities should be, makes us reflect about what universities really for and where is the happiness in our life.
